Built in 1900, the Amsterdam American Hotel is housed in an eye-catching building, which blends Art Deco architecture with Venetian Gothic and boasts distinctive turrets. The interior of the hotel, by contrast, is modern and chic. The medium sized lobby has a marble floor, patterned rugs and a generous seating area composed of attractive red or purple furniture. The bar is located next to the main reception area. Very popular with both hotel guests and local Amsterdammers, it is modern in design and overlooks the Leidseplein. The 174 guestrooms vary in size, from medium to large. None the less all are light and airy, decorated in soft neutral colours and boasting original stained glass windows. The bathrooms have also been completely renovated and smartly appointed in black, white and yellow tones. Both the guestrooms and the bathrooms are in excellent condition. The hotel’s Café Americain, an original Art Deco styled restaurant, offers guests the finest dishes from the French and International cuisine. During summer months you can also eat outside on the terrace.
