Pulitzer Hotel

Prinsengracht 315-331, Amsterdam NL 1016

Our Review

Most guests comment that the hotel is a maze thanks to it being a collection of canal houses joined up rather than a boring, modern building. It's this that gives it the quirky feel not often found in this level of hotel. Rooms vary in size but the quality of the facilities does not, overall a great hotel with excellent service.

Housed in 24 restored 17th and 18th century canal houses, the Pulitzer Hotel is one of the best deluxe hotels in Amsterdam, suitable for even the most discerning traveller. Inside there is a labyrinth of corridors, courtyards and discreet areas, with many original Dutch features, such as marble stairways and baroque plasterwork, all carefully preserved. The 230 guestrooms vary in size from small to medium, due to the age of the buildings. They are uniquely decorated, featuring timber floors, beamed ceilings and traditional wooden furniture. The bathrooms are also in exceptional condition, with beige, chequered marble floors. Some have an arch over the bath and a crest on the wall above, thus amplifying the property’s regal atmosphere. The hotel’s Pulitzer restaurant, once an old apothecary, is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and serves international cuisine. During summer, guests can dine in the courtyard and take afternoon tea in the garden. After dinner they can join friends for a cocktail in Pulitzer's Bar or head to the cigar lounge. The hotel also has its own motor launch moored in front of the property, with polished brass trimmings and glassed indoor cabin allowing guests to explore the canals in style.
