The NH Carlton is housed in an imposing traditional red brick building, which has been fully restored to its former glory. The spacious lobby and public areas are attractively appointed in Italian marble, with an atrium above. The 218 guestrooms vary in size from small to medium due to the age of the building. All are decorated in the same pleasant modern style with shades of blue and light wooden furniture. They are clean and well maintained, as are the white tiled bathrooms. The hotel’s "Café Il Girasol" overlooks Amsterdam’s flower market and offers a modest à la carte menu. There is also an excellent Italian restaurant on the first floor, called "Caruso", which is rather grand and authentically decorated.
