The hotel is situated on the 'main road' into the bustling red light district, adjacent the huge Grasshopper bar and coffee shop. We booked a room for three adults many weeks in advance, and were charged rates commensurate with high quality, comfortable accommodation. In the event, we were allocated 'Room 31', on floor '-1', adjacent a smelly laundry room, and with little ventilation. The room was basic, at best, and we all went home with various 'bites' from insects that convened for meetings down there. The bathroom was incredibly noisy, and the shower was a death trap, leaking all over the floor, with no shower curtain. The lighting and general atmosphere was akin to a wartime Concentration Camp, and we really felt we got the full experience of this, although its not exactly what we booked a hotel in a top European destination for... neither was it worth paying anything for at all. This hotel is truly awful. If I had of been with my Wife, instead of two male friends prepared to truly 'slum it', I'd have got my credit card out and immediately booked somewhere else, and then taken legal action.

Amsterdam is a beautiful City with many different and interesting areas. I would recommend the one hour boat cruise from the jetties on the Damrak, to take in a truly serene and unique view of the City. The Red Light district has to be experienced but be aware that the bars and shops are very expensive in this area, and the area has upwards of 100+ stag parties running amok around it later on Friday and Saturday nights, although it is very well policed. Don't restrict yourself to these areas and try Leidseplein, and other cool vibrant areas where you'll find loads of good local bars and restaurants, cheaper prices and higher quality (the Dutch wont pay through the nose, so eat and drink where they do). Chill out and let the Amsterdam experience come to you, its probably the best people watching City in Europe.

Honestly can't believe the bad responses on here this is a great little hotel we had 8 guys with street side basement rooms and they were fine probably wouldn't take your girlfriend/wife but for a clean tidy with an amazing position.
And don't be so hard on the food just normal continental breakfast in a clean tidy room. They could get some beans and or peeled plum tomatoes and you'd have pretty much a full english which would be excellent.

Centrally located but no air-conditioning. Rooms stuffy and almost has a sickening smell. Breakfast reasonably good except for the ants crawling in the cereal bowls.
